Tagged Diaries : My Super Woman!

Hello lovely readers,

I know its been ages since I wrote about my tagged diaries. Actually, I was preparing and doing my research to write this post and I have got the chance today. Few days back I had created a buzz to surprise someone who has become a role model in my life. She is none other than our lovely, the founder of The Book Club and The Book Reviewing Group,Rubina Ramesh.

Rubina Ramesh( My Super Woman)

RubinaRamesh2.jpg

I came across her accidently actually. I was updating my post when I saw her posting some forms of book reviews on some groups. I wondered how can she manage to do all this, when I actually checked her site (http://www.tbcblogtours.com/tbc-blog). The blog tours she had hosted and the way people have responded actually got my attention. I thought she is some hard core mechanical lady who works day and night. When I joined the group I came to know about her better. She used to mail me my schedules and once I had signed up Sumana Khan’s blog tour but I got late because of my exams. I had her number so I gave her a whatsapp call and her voice sounded so beautiful. She told me to focus on my exams and the way she checked the things within minutes and informed me about the dates was just so perfect. She told me she had her kids too so she could understand the value of exams in one’s life. She strictly asked me to study and not read the book. I could sense a motherly tone in her. On that day she came to know that I was a student :P. This was my first interaction with her and I really loved it how she responded.

13344595_492470507615202_6798642180235027790_n.png

Rubina is really dedicated when it comes to work. She keeps us pumped even though we are lazy lads. It is difficult to handle so many book reviewers and sending them mails. She does that without delaying anything. She handles everything, be it sending mails, be it updating schedules, be it interacting with us on useful topics like publishing, marketing or editing. Not only she, all the members of her team, Sundari maam, Nilima maam, Inderpreet maam. They are simply the most well versed ladies I have ever come across.

12079526_976793232364310_7079088085107273354_n.jpg

wow 😀

My second interaction made me realise that she is from Arizona. I was stunned as how could a person from distant land handle the things so well inspite of being the time zones the biggest barrier. She works during nights when we are almost asleep, the reminders, mailers and the way she reminds us of inklinz and rafflecopter is hilarious. When I was new, I had no idea how to use these two inlinkz and rafflecopter which was next to impossible for me. She told me one thing ,” I am an old lady and I understand only inlinkz” I couldn’t stop laughing at her remark. The habit of self mockery actually inpire us. She treats everyone the same, be it her fellow friends or youngsters like us. She explained me about rafflecopter and I started trying it and when I won for two times, I always gave the credits to Rubina. We talked for almost an hour and she told me about many members, their habits and how they can help me in improving my work. The best part was when she praised me for my book reviews. This was my biggest achievement coming from her whose loved by everyone.

The third interaction was superb. We talked for almost an hour. She told me amazing facts about her. At that time she was doing Paromita Goswami’s blog tour. She asked me about the delay and I told her that I had 35 books to wind up. She told me thats a small number. I was again astonished by her answer. She said she had 100+ books that are to be read. I must tell you, this lady never stops to give me shocks. Then she said that she doesn’t start reading a book until she undergoes 100 gaalis from the author..haha.. This experience actually motivated me and now when I say these many books are pending, I don’t feel bad.

How The Book Club and The Book Review Group changed my life?

I always give credits to Rubina, the woman behind these groups. She made me a quick reader and my book reviews kept on improving because of her. I learnt alot about publishing and even marketing. I was not a regular person in these groups but I used to follow the discussions. Now she has started a new trend where we have to read each other’s posts and comment so that it give some exposure to us and our blog. To add more, she has started with retweets on twitter. This lady thinks about everything. Thats why I call her a super woman.

TBC Meet.. I missed it ..:(

“Rubina is a super woman 😀 “- Surbhi Sareen

“I have a nickname for Rubina. I call her ‘Queen Rubes’ because she is like a vampire queen to us: up all night, never getting enough sleep, reaching out across time zones and borders to bring authors and readers, reviewers and bloggers together. She’s one of the most dedicated and dynamic people I’ve met, and what’s probably the most surprising thing about it all is that she has SO much to deal with but still is so kind and cheerful all the time. She’s the heart and soul, mind and body of the TBC.”  – Devika Fernando

“I am a well-known writer today only thanks to Rubina Ramesh’s marketing skills. I must say the lady does it from the heart.” – Sundari Venkataraman

“She is a friend I cherish. I respect her opinions and advices. Just few words with her makes me feel positive. Her words have been encouragement for me so many times especially when I have been low.
That could be the jist of how I feel about having known her and befriended her. But I can go on and on and on 🙂” –Reshma Ranjan

“She is kind, helpful and most importantly a down to earth person.” -Inderjit Kaur

“She is extremely focused, enterprising and innovative. Her tireless promotions and support are a big help to authors.” -Usha Narayanan

“She’s dedicated to the cause of the writers. The energy and time she puts into backing authors and their works is both admirable and unbelievable. I have the privilege of having my books Against All Rules and More Than Just Desire hosted by her TBC tours and found many of my readers that way. Be it day or night, I’m amazed at how Rubina never fails to address any concern of her team and her authors. She’s a lovely person to know, having poise and great sense of humour. In addition to the tours she’s helped in all the cover reveals of my books. “- Summerita Rhayne

‘Rubina is an amazing person. Not just for the work she does but how she does it. She’s an expert at handling both the authors and the bloggers in an honest and friendly manner. I have done 5 book tours with TBC all because I knew Rubina would deliver a comprehensive and fantastic tour. She has delivered more than expected. She is now a friend that I cherish. Wishing Rubina all the very best in all her endeavors. 😃‘ – VArsha Dixit

Book Review of The Fence

The Fence is the collection of short stories by different writers. These stories were written in a workshop which was organised by Half Baked Beans. Half Baked Beans only sent me the copy in exchange of an honest review. Lets get into the details:

51cwMHI2wwL._SX310_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

Cover- The cover of the book is simple yet amazing which includes a dark background followed by some people walking together.

Title- The title is unique and its an anthology so we have different themes related to it.

The stories:

Illustrado’s Eulogy-  The story  moves in a flow and the way the author has expressed the segments is impeccable. The characters were complimenting each other. The story has epistolary traits.

The Other Woman- This story highlights the illicit relationships and the guilt that overpowers it. It justifies that saying,” If you throw thorns for someone else, you will also feel the pain” (This one is my saying..lol)

The Smartphone- This story was unique and had a new perpective to life. The events of the story moved me and at some point I felt what the mother did was right. She went through a tabula rasa state where she couldn’t digest that his own son could call her a slut. The total drama package with an unexpected reaction. I would say, the materialistic thing ruined the unconditional love.

Resignation to Heaven- The title is unique and the story focus on the topic of Euthanasia. This topic is of soul discussion these days. The hypnotising sessions in the story highlights the stream of consciousness technique. This story is well thought and beautifully written.

LOve is Everything- The story revolves around the vicious circle of life where a rude girl falls for a kind hearted guy. The story is cute and quite predictable.

Runaway- The story that touched my heart and sounded realistic.Ouch! I could feel the story. The way the author expressed the psychology of a guy who realised that he ended up kissing the girl lying next to be. The state of shock could be felt but thats what actually happens to men. Either they face or they run. Just a perfect delineation of a sitaution related story.

Cashmere, I need Cashmere- A fantastic story after Runaway that grabbed my attention. A perfectly mentioned incidents with high voltage of emotions and the way. The characters, daughters, old man and his wife sounded realistic and I could relate the story to the most loved drama, King Lear by William Shakespeare.

What she wanted- The best story so far and the way the author kept the pace is remarkable. The suspense element was beyond perfection. The character of the protagonist, Sujata is beautifully delineated.

Style- The stories were written in a simple, lucid and condensed form. The expressions, lines were simply amazing. There were some errors in the book which can be corrected easily. The typsetting and the quality of pages needed attention. Further, I couldn’t relate myself to the title ‘The Fence’, maybe it was a random title.

Availability- http://www.amazon.in/Fence-Various-Authors/dp/9384315389/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1474704499&sr=1-1&keywords=Fence

Read an excerpt…

“Good morning!” said a sleepy voice. “What are you doing so far away?” called out Ram, before reaching out with a long arm to pull her to him.
A startled Sapna gave him a shocked look that was lost on her husband, whose eyes were still closed. His arms went around her waist like steel bands, his breath hot against her cheek. “Sapna…” he whispered in her ear as his hard lips pressed into her petal soft cheek.
Sapna tried to pull out of his arms, only to have them pull her closer. Her breasts were flattened against his solid chest. Her traitorous body seemed to enjoy the pressure as her nipples perked up. She did her best to hold on to the control that was slipping fast.
“Ram,” she called out loudly, hoping to wake him up. She couldn’t free her arms that were trapped against her own body, as he held her in a crushing grip. His mouth was busy exploring her face, moving inexorably towards her lips. His eyes continued to remain closed, while his hands moved restlessly at her waist. “Ram…” her voice came out in a whisper, as she felt his tongue trace the edge of her lips. Tortured, she made the final move to capture his roving lips, breaking free her hands to hold his face steady.
“Sapna…” sighed Ram, kissing her gently, his tongue first tracing her upper lip and then her lower one. He gently bit the luscious curve. Sapna instinctively opened her mouth to let him explore the velvety cavern with his tongue. Shyly, her tongue reached out to mate with his, making Ram groan with need.
His hands moved restlessly on her body, her nightie bunching up. His muscular legs tangled with her slim ones, making her sigh with pleasure as his hard and hairy skin brushed against her soft and silky one. His hands cupped her lush bottom, caressing it lovingly.
Sapna suddenly became aware of his hardness pressed against her belly. Coming to her senses, she turned her face away, breaking the kiss. “No Ram.”
His wet lips continued to caress her, his tongue exploring her shell-like ear. Even as her heart thudded loudly, Sapna pushed against him. “Ram, please, will you stop it?”
His black eyes opened a slit, desire and slumber at war in them. “Sapna?” If he hadn’t been fully awake before, he was now, as he stared at her lovely face that was so close to his. He slowly recalled what had been occurring over the past few minutes. He had at first thought he was dreaming about kissing the luscious woman in his arms. How had she landed there in the first place?

100th POst: Inspiration Regained!

Hello fellow readers,

I am happy to announce that the post you are reading today is my 100th post. I never knew I would reach here so soon. It is an amazing feeling and an urge to share so much. To be honest, I have a poetry exam day after tomorrow and I am hear scribbling my thoughts as I couldn’t get over the thought of writing, maybe I am too much addicted to writing. When I started this blog, I didn’t know that people would love me here also. I was happy with my blogger posts until I realised I need to categorise my posts and the themes. I was following Kavipriya Moorthy’s blog( https://kavipriyamoorthy.wordpress.com/)religiously and she was the person behind my joining wordpress. She told me to shift here and asked me to move all my previous reviews here. After that I was so engrossed in creating new posts, new categories that I almost forgot to shift the things. I felt, they have a place and I should make them stay there only. But what about that blog now? It kept on bugging me until yesterday I decided to make it live by posting some enteratining stuff like health related issues, food recipies, relationships, movie reviews(www.reviewswithsur.blogspot.in). By this way, I can use both the blogs. Okay,I am digressing here. This post would be different as it is a pure non- fiction where I would talk about my journey of blogging. And this is totally different from my regular posts. I keep on adding new sections to my blog to make it look lively.

100th-Blog-Post-Celebration-Reflecting-On-My-Writing-Journey.jpg

Blogging is not everyone’s cup of tea. The idea of blogging bloomed when my first story was published. I wanted to share my thoughts. I used to write on other’s sites but I wanted my own space for writing. I felt my writing was confined to my diaries only. Till now I have written 60 diaries and out of them 20 are safe as others, I had lost it when construction was going on. It was a big shock for me when I came to know about it. At that time I decided that I need some other way where I can write, maybe online. I had known about this blogging thing and many times I have discussed about it with my friends. They used to tell me that :

“Surbhi you have to be regular with the posts as if you don’t give time to your readers, you won’t get any followers.”

I was in grade 12 and I had my boards to handle so I couldn’t have given time but that thing just got fixed in my head that I couldn’t give time. When I started reading certain blogs, a desire to be read took birth in my mind. I just wanted to be read. I used to update things on fb, my poems and many things and people used to appreciate me too but still I wanted those people to appreciate my works who were completely stranger to me. The reason being, they would give me their honest feedbacks as compared to the people I know.

DSC_9524.jpg

They always say( I literally don’t know who? :P) that sharing your thoughts with strangers is better than sharing with your loved ones as they don’t judge you. With this point, I remember Hazlitt’s words, who always said that one should travel alone because during that journey you can be a different person. For me, blogging is like travelling and witnessing a new side of me. When I start writing, I really don’t know what I would end up writing. I never plan things when it comes to writing a short story, writeup, snippet or anything.

inspirational-quotes-3.jpg

My first trial was Inspirational Diaries. They are in the Writeups(/category/writeups/) section and those who haven’t read must read it. I am sure you will get inspired by reading those short stories about people. I feel everyone in our life plays a significant role and teach us something or the other. I wanted those people to know that what impact they have left in my life. I wrote about them like how they inspired me and the diaries are still going on as the list is too long. Then the other thing I started was Tagged Diaries(/2016/07/23/tagged-diaries-mysterious-u/). Here, I wrote about those people whom I have given some tags and how they justify those tags. It was entirely different and people really loved these concepts and everytime they used to ask me, when are you writing about the next person? It actually boosted me.

Convent Diaries

My other attempt was Convent Diaries(/2016/07/06/slam-books-in-convent/). Being a Conventee, I wanted to show my attachment so I wrote a writeup where I had talked about Slam books. There are many things which are to be covered so will update that soon. Convent is my solace and I consider it Heaven for me. I am so much attached to it that I can’t express. I am always in a state of tabula rasa when I have to express my thoughts about Convent. I can go on hours writing about Convent.

Friendship Diaries

The other was Friendship Diaries(/category/friendship-diaries/). For me friends come before relations, yes I go dictionary wise. So, they do deserve a special corner in my blog. I have made a separate section for them as I am updating about my majors on their birthdays and yes, I make them feel like Prince and Princess. There is alot to add about my friends, I am waiting for their birthdays.

With change in time, I have added Guest Posts(/category/guest-posts/), Interviews( /category/interviews/)and Spotlights(/category/spotlights/), Book Reviews(/category/book-reviews/), Short stories(/category/short-stories/), Poems(/category/poems/). The best way to know about others is guest posts where I invite people who talk about their fields. The best part was when Vipul Madhani, CEO of Pustakmandi launched the site Authorsdock on this blog. The next best moment was when I had interviewed Sudeep Nagarkar on my blog. Soon, I will be updating the interview of Novoneel Chakroborty and Preeti Shenoy. Spotlights are the sneak peaks of upcoming novels which might interest the audience. This was completely a new experience for me. My main work here is updating book reviews and I enjoy doing it. Next, I wrote heart warming short stories and all were related to me somehwere or the other. I wrote just one poem and will adding more soon. Yes, shayaris section is still empty but will soon fill it.

Pre- release interview of Aditti Gaur

Hello lovelies,

I have never done pre- release interviews and this is the first one.. I have invited Aditti Gaur whose book Adhira is going to hit the stores soon. Lets start with the interview :

81ihcvgskql

Sur : As we know your book is going to hit the market, so tell us how you are feeling about it?

Aditti: I am as nervous as I was last time. I can’t wait to hear or read the first review about Adhira.

Sur: You recently released the cover of the book, we would love to hear your heartfelt emotions?

Aditti: It was an amazing experience to have someone inspirational like Santosh Ma’am by your side to reveal the first look of Adhira. My heartfelt gratitude to her for gracing that event with her presence.

14224691_1852886838267496_8561540051869625923_n

Sur: Adhira is re released, so are we getting something new or its just the new cover?

Aditti:Surbhi, this time we worked on everything, story – characterizations – loopholes & grammar mistakes. We tried hard to correct every possible mistakes by keeping our reviewers point in mind. So, this time people will get a whole new experience of Adhira.

Sur: What all troubles you went through while finalising the cover of the book?

Aditti :I faced a lot of criticism for the previous book cover of Adhira. Though, it was attractive but it didn’t connect with the story. Even few people told me that it looked like an erotic novel cover. So, this time I was clear about what I want to show through my cover. We tried many designers, all of them were brilliant in their field, they designed the perfect covers but somehow they didn’t attract me.Then finally I called up to Ajitabha Sir and describe him the whole concept I had in my mind. He took 2 days and the result is infront of you. Nothing can be better than this cover for Adhira.

Sur: As now we can see, the book is published under Author Paradise, tell us about them? How their paths matched yours?

Aditti :Tushti is the person who took my first ever interview when I stepped in this field.Since then we shared a good bonding. After the debacle of my debut novel, whom now I pronounced as 1st edition of Adhira, I was heartbroken and decided to quit. One fine day she called me and I shared my agony with her, she motivated me and instantly came up with the idea of re-publishing Adhira. She convinced me to take a second chance because she found Adhira’s story interesting. They both, Tushti & Sandeep, stood by my side and supported me every time. This is how our journey started.

About the Author

An Indian by nationality and a Hindu by religion. Aditti Gaur was born in New Delhi, but her complete upbringing was done in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Years later, she moved to Gurgaon in 2011, post her marriage. She worked for the leading DTH Company for almost 5 to 6 years. She holds a respectable past experience working there, but, she quit that 9 to 6 profile job, because somewhere deep inside her heart she knew that job is not meant for her. When she completely realized this fact she silently surrendered herself to her passion – writing. She started her writing experience through her blog. She used to write her thoughts, views about everything and short stories. A die-heart music lover and almost crazy for her favorite musicians, she also loves reading. She takes a step ahead in pursuing her passion by writing her debut book ‘Adhira…Love: Lost & Found’. By this, she tried to explain the life of a girl. It is a story about a girl and her life journey of struggles, achievements, responsibilities, passion & love of her life. The journey, where, she realized that sometimes… silence is the most powerful scream and indication of something being terribly wrong. A journey, where she loses her love somewhere and then finds it again.

Book Review of The Smitten Husband

The Smitten Husband (Marriages Made in India Book1) by Sundari Venkatraman is a typical Indian tale which highlights the patriarchal society where decision makers are men not women. This is not just a simple tale but there are so many hidden facts about the society.  I got this book in an ebook form as a part of The Book Club blog tour.Lets get into the details:

51muksSvVdL._UY250_.jpg

Cover- The cover of the book is fantastic and matches the story. We can notice a man and a woman dressed up.

Title- The title perfectly matches the theme of the novel and the way the story moves, it makes it apt.

Blurb-

Ram Maheshwari is a successful jewellery designer who has a huge showroom on MI Road, Jaipur. He’s tall, dark, handsome and a billionaire to boot. He’s twenty-nine and falls in with his parents’ wishes when they try to arrange his marriage.

The lovely, stormy-eyed Sapna Purohit is from Pushkar. She’s managed to finish school and makes a living by doing mehendi designs during weddings. She’s always dreamt of a Prince on a white horse, sweeping her off her feet.

One look into Sapna’s grey eyes and Ram is lost. Only, Sapna is unable to see her Prince in Ram. Being from a poor family, she has no choice but to go along with the tide when the Maheshwaris offer to bear all expenses of the wedding.
Does that mean that the feisty Sapna is all set to accept Ram as her husband? She puts forth a condition, after the wedding. Will the smitten husband agree to it?
*MARRIAGES MADE IN INDIA is a five-novella series that revolves around the characters you have met in The Runaway Bridegroom.
Plot- The plot is simple and intruguing without any loopholes. The story revolves around a couple named Sapna and Ram who belong from different corners of the societies. When they come across things didn’t click on both the sides but as the decision is based on man’s verdict, the marriage happens. This is a journey of a non hero who later turns out to be a hero.
Theme- There are many themes in this novel. The main highlight is the male chauvanism society. Sundari maam elucidates that time when Indian men were the bread earners and their decisions were final but we find a bit of twist where the Maheshwari family is ready to accept their daughter- in- law the ways she is. But still when Ram agrees for the wedding inspite of Sapna’s reluctance, this shows us this concept.
Wedding plays a vital role in this novel. Always girl’s are affected if they don’t get a proper match. Hence, here we notice Sapna as a victim of such things and her rejections were due to inability to pay dowry. But in the last case, Ram didn’t ask her any dowry and her parents were pretty impressed by Ram and his family’s thoughts.
Individuality is one such theme. In India, women are mostly deprived of their individualities. Sapna is independent and wants to marry someone who could understand her and has her own picture of a perfect husband but that image she couldn’t find in Ram. She thought after wedding she would lose her individuality but this novel is full of surprises and the way Ram gives her space is impeccable.
Characterisation- The characters are realistic and amazing. I simply loved Sapna who is an independent girl with simple living and high thinking kind of attitude. She belongs to a poor family always lived with respect and dignity. When she comes across Ram, who is not her Prince charming she begins to hate things. She is not happy with the wedding and feels like a curse with this rich man. Later on, things take a positive change and love dwells slowly.
Ram is a rich guy who instantly falls for Sapna and doesn’t want to lose her at any cost. Things get upside down when Sapna reveals that she doesn’t want tobe with him. He gets infuriated and as an audience we do sympathise with him but when we he keeps himself at his wife’s place he realises that he was at a fault. He tries every possible thing to mend the relationship and later on, his hard work is paid off.
Style- I really loved the Indian touch in the novel. The flow of the story was smooth and easy. The sentences were simple, compound and complex. The author has beautifully described the things be it the small house of Sapna or the ravishing environment at Ram’s place. The narrative technique is mind blowing.
My Observations- This story highlights the arrange marriage. According to me, arrange marriages are beautiful as there is alot to know the person. It even takes our entire life to know a person but in love marriage we know everything from the start and that click begins to fade away. In this story, though Sapna wasn’t happy earlier and had a bad opinion about Ram but later on, as she started living with him, spending time with him, she realised that he was not a bad person infact, he is a gem of a person. Sundari maam has beautifully delineated this concept.
About the Author
5329564
Even as a kid, Sundari absolutely loved the ‘lived happily ever after’ syndrome as she grew up reading all the fairy tales she could lay her hands on, Phantom comics, Mandrake comics and the like. It was always about good triumphing over evil and a happy end.

Soon, into her teens, Sundari switched her attention from fairy tales to Mills & Boon. While she loved reading both of these, she kept visualising what would have happened if there were similar situations happening in India; to a local hero and heroine. Her imagination took flight and she always lived in a rosy cocoon of romance over the years.

Then came the writing – a true bolt out of the blue! She could never string two sentences together. While her spoken English had always been excellent – thanks to her Grandpa – she couldn’t write to save her life.

All this changed suddenly one fine day in the year 2000. She had just quit her job as a school admin and didn’t know what to do with her life. She was saturated with simply reading books. That’s when she returned home one evening after her walk, took some sheets of paper and began writing. It was like watching a movie that was running in her head – all those years of visualising Indian heroes and heroines needed an outlet and had to be put into words. That’s how her first novel, The Malhotra Bride, took shape. While she felt discouraged when publishing didn’t happen, it was her husband who kept encouraging her not to give up.

In the meanwhile, she landed a job as Copy Editor with Mumbai Mirror. After working there for two years, she moved to the Network 18 Group and worked with two of their websites over the next six years, as Content Editor.

Despite her work schedule, she continued to write novels and then short stories and had them published in her blogs. She also blogs voraciously, writing on many different topics – travel, book reviews, film reviews, restaurant reviews, spirituality, alternative health and more.

Her first eBook Double Jeopardy – a romance novella – was published by Indireads and has been very well received by readers of romance.

In 2014, Sundari self-published The Malhotra Bride (2nd Edition); Meghna; The Runaway Bridegroom; Flaming Sun Collection 1: Happily Ever Afters From India (Box Set) and Matches Made In Heaven (a collection of romantic short stories).

2015 brought yet another opportunity. Readomania came forward to traditionally publish this book – The Madras Affair – a mature romance set in Madras.

Happy 126th birthday to Agatha Christie

Hello lovelies,

Today on the eve of Agatha Christie’s 126th birthday I would like to review her book Murder at the Orient Express which I read recently. Guys, to be honest, I didn’t knew about her until I came across Kavipriya Moorthy’s status about her. She had expressed that Agatha Christie is her favourite and has mentioned about her in her blog. I actually got fascinated by this and I bought her book from amazon prime at a cheaper price. When I started reading her book, I was stunned to read about the sequences, twists and turns and the way she wrote about the things is impeccable. On further research, I realised she written so many novels and most of them are crime thrillers. She has mastered this art of writing and I am keen to read all of her works. She may not be alive today but her works have made her immortal and her character POirot is my all time favourite. Lets get into the details:

61WLupnyuML.jpg

Cover- The cover of the book is fantatsic where it has a white creamish background and a train with stains of red blood on it. This is a perfect background for a crime thriller.

Title- The title gives us the place of the murder i.e. The Orient Express. It is beyonf perfect.

Blurb- Agatha Christie has long been recognized as the master of detective novels. And her novel, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ is one of her masterpiece. The setting in the snow covered Yugoslavia provides an ideal ambience for this detective novel to unfold. It poses several moral questions related to what is justice and how can morals justify an action. For the addicts of mystery and detective novels, Agatha Christie provides an exercise to your instinct and guessing capacity. The settings of the novel are inspired by Christie’s real life experience of travelling in the Orient Express and it lends authenticity to the novel. The readers can now enliven the whole situation and experience the surroundings that are recreated through words.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie is a murder mystery that has a Belgian detective Hercule Poirot as the protagonist. It traces the story of the mysterious murder of a fellow companion of Hercule in the compartment of Orient Express on its way to London. It is interesting to find out who is involved behind the murder, what was the motive and if the mystery finally resolves at the end or leaves several questions unanswered. The moral dilemma and internal crisis that Hercule Poirot faces as he is on his duty of solving the murder mystery gives the story a compelling take. As Hercule Poirot is engaged into unravelling the mystery and unbridling the several connections of the passengers with the murder, the sense of anticipation is what keeps the readers hooked until the last page.

Plot- The plot is intriguing and keeps us hooked till the end. This story is about a case where a person name Casetti is murdered and the passengers are the suspect. Hercule Poirot is the protagonist who struggles to solve the case.

Allegory- To some extend I feel it is an allegory. According to M.H. Abrahams, An allegory is a story within a story. Here the murder leads to the old story which remained hidden under the pressure of influential people. It was about a family named Armstrong whose family members disappeared after the death of a child who was earlier kidnapped and later on murdered. This gave way to the revenge motive.

Theme- The whole story revolves around murder and the way the leads are used to crack the case. Further, the theme of revenge is seen when Poirot realises that some of the passengers are from Armstrong Family. These things give way to the further progression of the story.

Characterisation- The author has done full justice to the characters. There are multiple characters and all are given their share of space. I would like to throw light on Poirot’s character. He is the protagonist of the story and an imaginary character. He has a sharp mind and the way he read between the lines is marvelous. Further, he is a keen observer.Nothing is hidden from his eyes. His investigation adds soul to the novel.

Style- The author has beautifully written this book using fantastic sentences. There are some sentences which are simple, compound and complex. The descriptions are crisp and gives us a clear image of the scenes. Once can see them in real if thought about. Furthermore, the use of french and Italian words gave flavout to the book but at times the readers fail to understand these words and might go in the drawback. The book is divided into three sections and the way case is solved in parts is remarkable.

Guest Post by Varsha Dixit

Hello lovelies,

Today I would like to introduce a stunning author who is known for her romantic works. She is none other than our extremely talented Varsha Dixit whose latest release Rightfully Wrong Wrongfully Right has hit the market. Lets see what she has to say in her guest post. Over to you maam..:)

“We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master.”

—Ernest Hemingway

Writing romance is no different from writing thrillers or writing horror or autobiographies. I strongly feel how one writes is way more important than what one writes. The latter just makes it easy for the bookstore staff to identify which shelf your book belongs in.

However, all authors have their genres that they are comfortable writing in. Their fortes! Much like Usain Bolt who can burn the tracks with his speed and win medals galore. However, give Usain a tennis racket and see what happens. Probably nothing! For track is his forte tennis isn’t.

Having written five romance novels, writing romance is my forte. That’s my bolt! Just like a sweet smelling scone has some basic ingredients, every written genre has some key ingredients.  I will not delve into other genres but focus on the genre that I’m most adapt in. Romance!

  • Attraction and love between the protagonists.
  • A conflict or a problem that keeps them apart or some tension/situation that does not allow them to unite.
  • A potent and sizzling chemistry
  • Finally a resolution to the conflict thus uniting the couple.

The above-mentioned points are the basic elements of a romance story.  Like a body’s skeleton!

When writing romance, make your characters rich, keep the story moving at a good pace and give details to your descriptions. Make your book the kind that if the reader was to close his or her eyes they could imagine the whole story play out like a movie. Readers will spend their precious hours only with those books, which hold their attention.

Also, avoid using flat words like, ‘almost’, ‘finally’, ‘merely’, ‘nearly’ etc.  Making your writing action oriented. Show the readers the scene, don’t preach it!

Romance should make readers laugh, cry and fall in love much like the protagonists of the book.

Thank you Surbhi for hosting my book, ‘Rightfully Wrong Wrongfully Right’, and guest post on your blog. Good luck to you in your writings.
