What your banker won’t tell you by Vaibhav Anand

Hello Fellas,

How is your book reading going on? I have been away from reviewing these days but that doesn’t mean I am not reading anything. Nobody can take away the reader in me. Today, I will be sharing my review for a non- fiction book What Your Banker Don’t Tell You by Vaibhav Anand.

vaibhav anand

Cover: The cover of the book is amazing as the cover doesn’t give you an idea that it is a non-fiction book. The cover looks like a mirage. It shows a girl, geeky beautiful who seems to be excited while writing something.

Title: The title of the book is intriguing and it just grabs the attention of the reader.

About the Book: Making money is hard, they will tell you. Or that you need to buy X insurance or Y mutual funds or a 3BHK in Z place. Your banker, your money manager, even the avuncular neighbor who sells you LIC policies, will seem incredibly earnest as they give you what is actually self-serving money advice.

Coming from someone who’s spent years in banking, ‘What your banker won’t tell you’ is a simple do-it-yourself guide for investing in India. Spanning investment instruments across real estate, mutual funds, equity investing, debt, gold, Vaibhav takes you through fundamental tenets and easy to follow steps to grow your money and keep your banker from taking some or almost all of it.

Review: Although I am picky with non- fiction, I liked this self-help book. The way the author has used examples to explain the points about “mutual funds” is great and I didn’t get bored while reading it. The language was simple and understandable. It was a quick and easy read with lots of suggestions to be implemented. People who are unsure about their financial management then this book is your Bible and everybody should read it as it has life-saving advice given by our one and only Vaibhav Anand.

Book Review of Super Couples

Super Couples by Prachi Garg is a non fiction book that talks about the stories of entrepreneurs who are couples.

51CrjsJoeZL

Cover and Title: I really loved the simple and elegant cover that serves the purpose of the book. Further, the way the author has chosen the title, it makes it meaningful. For me both are perfect.

Sneak Peak:In an era booming with the ‘Start-up’ trend and loving this new attitude of breaking boundaries and conventions of a career, one also faces the challenge of being able to partner up with the right people. In lieu of reliable and trustworthy partners, real life couples in relationships have started exploring the idea of partnering up in business too!
Speaking to various couple-preneurs, one realizes that the myth about mixing work and home is just as misty as the one about needing a stable and conventional job for an ambitious career. These dynamic start-ups break stereotypes and cover a varied range of services: ecommerce, innovative gifts, eco-friendly products, health care solutions, social responsibility ventures, event management, digital
solutions and many others.
SuperCouples brings out such lovely stories of enterprising couples. After all, when great minds come together to produce something built on conjoined dreams, the result is eminently successful.

About The Book

This book has some success stories of people from various fields who have shared their live’s struggles. Some of them talked about their love for art, food, technology and many other fields. This book is inspirational and it gives us courage to start something with our loved ones or partners. Life becomes easy when your life partner is your business partner as well. The author has done a lot of reasearch work and the couples are form various departments, fields, backgrounds.

The book is written in a simple yet powerful way.The way the author has engaged us till the end is mind blowing. I would say, instead of author, the stories of couples kept us hooked. Book Review of Ability on Wheels…Enabling Drivability

Ability on Wheels… Enabling Drivability by Harish Kumar is a motivational book, not only for the disabled people but also for us. This book is really informative and a guideline for the people who are handicapped and have the desire to drive the car.

14908168_10154530631525359_7386642779675347601_n.jpg

The cover is apt as it has a car and a man who is disabled. The captions are inspiring and also the way with which the colours are used.

The title is crystal clear and gives you all the vibes of positivity. At times, the readers are curious to know more about the book.

This book is a non fiction and it is all about the thought process of Harish Kumar who happens to be diabled but did the act of ability. Through this book he has given everyone a lesson that disability doesn’t matters. It matters to those who feel it. He is the record holder and through his struggles, guidelines he has not only encouraged others but also gave us the way to ahead. While I was reading this book I was reminded of my teacher’s words,” Never let your disability come in your goals.” Harish through his success stories gave us enough information about driving tests for handicapped. After reading this, I never felt that Harish Kumar is a handicap. He can drive a car and do all the activities then how can he be a handicap? Infact he is a winner who has defeated his disability as well.

I am glad that I decided to review this book after a session that I had attended on drugs. The person who gave us lecture about it was a handicap. His name is Vivek Joshi. This man is an alumini of my college and the way he handled the audience was spectacular. I felt like mentioning about him. He has spread drug awareness in almost many schools and colleges. Harish Kumar and Vivek Joshi have been an inspirational figures for me. Hence, for the first time in my book review, I got carried away.

This book will make you inspired and it can help you guys in knowing many facts which we often are unknown to. I will strongly recommend this book to everyone as we all have that one person who is handicap, we can help them and help ourselves also, so that we don’t judge such people.

Book Review of Bag it All

Bag It All by Nina Lekhi and Suman Chhabria is an autobiographical book that has all the flavours of spiritualism, motivation, entrepreneurship.

DSCN2280.JPG

Sneek Peak:

As told to Suman Chhabria Addepalli with a foreword by Rashmi Bansal – A Bestselling author. The inspirational story of an entrepreneur who built a 100-crore company with the power of intent and love . Indra Nooyi said, “Women can’t have it all!” It’s either career or family. I disagree. As I see it, we can have it all – a successful company, a loving family and the opportunity to follow our passion. When I was a teenager, I started a small ghar-ka-business selling trendy handbags. Today, Baggit is a 100-crore company. Along the way, I became a wife and a mom, and navigated the various twists and turns in my personal life. I could do it all because of my loving, supportive family and my guru, who have made me a better person and a better entrepreneur. This is the story of how a C-minus student – a failure in college – became an A-plus entrepreneur. If I can do it, so can you. My secrets are in these pages.

Review:

IMG-20170319-WA0010

Starting from the first look of the book, I could make out that this book will surely reach my heart. Yes, it did. The cover of the book is fantastic as it has the picture of the owner, Nina Lekhi, of Baggit Brand. Those who are unaware of this Baggit then I would like to tell you that Baggit is a brand name that deals with handmade bags. It has a history of many years and now the turnover has reached upto 100 crores. This book is a story of young Nina who went through thick and thin to make a small shop into such a big brand. Behind all this, lies the support of family members, friends and relatives.Even the contribution of yoga and Guru ji brought Nina’s life on a track.

The book is divided into 3 parts, it has a narration of Nina’s life and then the next part has her struggles along with it, are the lessons she learnt from those struggles and experiences. Honestly speaking, when I started reading this book, I was in my low modes. But after reading it, my mind was fresh and I was ready to take up the challenges. Furthermore, the way the author has used the remarks made by her dear and near ones makes it impeccable.

The book is written in a simple yet lucid way. It is easy to understand and comprehend. Some of the pictures used in the book makes it look beautiful. This book is not an autobiography but a journey of Nina which we can go through by reading this book.

Book Review of The Mind Game

The Mind Game by Devika Das is a self help book. This book refreshens your mind and give you positive vibes. In short it is a guide book for all type of people who wants to be happy, rich and successful. Although, I have read many self help books but this book not only motivates you but gives you so much strength that you surely start implementing those things in your life. This book serves as a mentor in your life and change your though process somewhere.

dscn2057

The cover of the book is simple and to the point. We can notice some brain nerves interconnected. The cover doesn’t have much significance as I feel the author focussed on her views to be read and implemented, not the cover. So, those who judge the book by cover might not like it.

The title is crystal clear as the author wants to tell us some of the mantras that can shape our life. Henceforth, she came up with The Mind Game.

Honestly speaking, I have never heard of Pepper Script publishers but when I read this book, I just fell in love with the quality of the book, the fine pages and the amazing typesetting along with mind blowing editing.

Crests and troughs, ups and downs, joys and sorrows are a part of everyone’s lives. While many choose to simply succumb to bad times, the winner is the one who remains strong, successfully wades off negativity and rises, unbound. All of us, at some point in time, have experienced situations involving emotional outbursts where we have, albeit unknowingly, hurt others or even our own self and have only ended up regretting our actions. Wouldn’t it be great if we could somehow become mindful of our current emotional state and maintain equilibrium in our personal and professional lives? Moreover, mindfulness helps us realise what we really want from life. It helps us to first think, then act and not vice-versa. The Mind Game is a self-improvement guide that talks about how to manage emotions wisely and lead a powerful, but stress-free life.

Devika clearly knows the knack of structurising her thoughts. She has beautifully divided the book into Six sections which gives us a clearer glimpse of her thoughts. The sections include:

Section A- Mastering your emotions.

B- Simple Living… High Thinking

C- Analyzing People

D- Secret of True Happiness

E- Manage Your Anger Creatively

F- A Happy Workplace- The Secret of a Long, Successful Career.

As you can guess from the chapter names, the book is an amalgam of various elements that altogether reports to the effective working of the brain.

The chapters are short and one doesn’t get bored while reading them. Some of the facts are known to us but often we don’t use those facts in our life. So, through Devika we get to relive those thought processes.

Devika’s thoughts are based on high research on philosophy, business studies, science etc. The way she delineates her philosophic thoughts is impeccable. Her guides, thoughts reminds me of Robin Sharma, Napolean Hill.

The language used by the author is simple, easy and lucid. She even follows pithy style of writing. She fabulously connects with the readers as a friend and gives her valuable thoughts. The mesmerising thoughts at the start of every chapter makes it relatable. This book is a must read and I am sure you will end up following some of the sections religiously. I am following Section A and Section E staunchly. Thankyou Devika for motivating us.

Book Review of Lemons and Lemonades

Lemons and Lemonades : My Midlife Dabble in Online Romance by David H Mathews is a non fiction book on relationships and dating. This book has humor and can even be categorized as a memoir.

Lemons+and+Lemonade+eimage.jpg

The cover of the book is just perfect as per its idea. The cover has a keyboard and a heart is their. This gives us an idea about the thought process of the book. For a person who judge by a cover, will surely find it luring.

The title of the book is tricky an the author has used his smartness in it. Lemons and Lemonades surely grabs the attention of the readers and it doesn’t match with the cover. So, to know more about it, one can pick this book.

“What you are about to read is frequently salty, occasionally convoluted, and in all ways, very personal. These true and sometimes ribald tales did actually occur during my online dating dabble between wife number two and wife number three…”

Neither a primer on online dating, nor a gender-biased lament on love gone wrong, David H. Mathews’ memoir, Lemons and Lemonade explores the connections and disconnections he made while searching the .com world for romance.

After subscribing to a dating site, David struggles to concoct a suitably provocative profile, stumbles and falls with several mismatched matches, then finally connects with, and promptly marries Clare, the love of his life. Actual email exchanges chronicle their blurringly fast courtship.

David shares his honest-to-God interactions with honest-to-God women in the voice of a plain-speaking Indiana farm boy who spent his youth playing basketball, fondling cheerleaders, baling hay, and shoveling manure.

The book talks about the situations and the experiences of the author in his marriages. This is a personal book and the way he delineates his view points is hilarious. The concept of burlesque can be seen in this book. The author talks about online dating and the way he struggles to update the details in it. These interactions surely makes you laugh your heart out. Further, we find self mockery element in it.

The style of writing is quite cool and it attracts the attention of the readers. The descriptions are subtle and the narration is personal. The book surely has wit, humor, sarcasm and some of the dialogues makes us laugh too. It is a light book to read and one doesn’t get bored while reading. Honestly speaking, this is just an average book for me as I could find editing errors in it. This was a bit turn off and at times I found the thoughts are exaggerated.

Book Review of 34 Bubblegums and Candies

34 Bubblegums and Candies by Preeti Shenoy is her debutante non fiction book. I have read her fiction novels like Life is What You Make It, It Happens For a Reason, It’s All In the Planets and they all have been fantastic. I have read her blogs as well and wanted to know her better, so I thought of buying her first book. This book is a collection of blog posts and some stories that are related to author’s life. This book is dedicated to her late father who has been her inspiration. It took me just one hour to complete this book and I was moved by the thoughts of the author. This book gave me a better perspective to look at her.

51jC8pfKuLL.jpg

The cover of the book surely matches the title of the book as it says 34 bubblegums and candies. The author compares this with her husband and her children. The way she beautifully expressed her personal life experiences is just amazing. I just couldn’t top admiring the thoughts of the author.

The very first chapter is dedicated to her father whom she calls her best friend. The way she simply narrates the story binds the readers together. At the end of this short story, we surely shed tears and that remorseful feeling in our eyes in the form of new tears makes it poignant.

Some of the chapters talk about the hilarious experiences of the author and also the people she is linked to and admires them. From these, we come to know that her anecdotes were from her own life, her experiences with her father, mother, children and even her dear husband. They have been beautifully expressed.

The style of writing is simple. No fancy words are used as the main purpose of the author is to convey her thoughts. The descriptions and anecdotes are simple perfect. There are certain quotes used by the author which are loved by the readers. I am glad that I picked up this book.

About the book

34 Bubblegums And Candies is a collection of short, real-life incidents that have inspired the author in the course of her life. Using the analogy of bubblegums and candies, the title alludes to the various facets of life that go by unnoticed. Humorous and engaging, the book takes you through 34 real-life incidents covering a variety of characters.

Some of the short stories are titled Please Hug Me I’m Just Like You, Sylvester Stallone Doesn’t Open Up Easily, Radiators And Drains, My Special Friend, Age Miracles, Feeling Needed, Mail Exchange and The Stranger. in Please Hug Me I’m Just Like You, you travel into a home where children who are HIV positive are cared for. 34 Bubblegums And Candies gives you a fun outlook at some of life’s more complicated issues without trivializing them.

The funny and touching stories end with notes that encourage the reader to look at the lessons you can learn from some of the simplest things in life. Like the author’s other works, the book uses simple vocabulary, presented in an engaging pace. 34 Bubblegums And Candies was published in 2008 and is available in paperback.

Book Review of Who Will Cry When You Die?

Who Will Cry When You Die? by Robin Sharma is a non fiction self help book. This book surely changes our outlook of looking at life. This is true that nobody has time for us, doesn’t matter if we live or die. A person will mourn for us for one day, two day or more than a month but slowly the memories will fade away. I know it is a New Year and I am talking about death here. But the truth I realized when I had lost a dear one. It is not that we don’t miss the person but slowly we learn to without them. When I had lost my grandfather, I used to mourn at his death. But now its been more than 6 years since he left us. I have accepted the fact that he is not around us but that doesn’t mean I never loved him. In all this, I learnt that we need to live our present for our life is too short to keep grudges, fights or anything.

images.jpg

The title of the book surely leaves in deep thoughts. It is not just a title but a question in itself that Who Will Cry When You Die? This reminds us of the time when we are busy in our professional life and miss the love of our family. It gives you a strong motive to pick up this book and know the reason as the book is so gripping in itself.

When you are born the World rejoice while you cry. Live a life in a such a way that when you DIE, the World should cry and you rejoice’ – Ancient Sanskrit Saying.

Robin Sharma’s book ‘Who Will Cry When You Die?’ is based on the above lines. Sharma talks about 101 ‘Life Principles’ you need to follow to die peacefully and worth-fully.

There is no plot or characters as in this book as it is a self help book. The way the author has talked about various aspects of life in form of 101 chapters is mind blowing. Some lines just touched my heart and I would surely quote them below.

The style of writing is poignant and the author gives us many references, iterations of his points. He has beautifully sculpted his points and one can just fall in love with the way he explains. No doubt, people admire him for his life lessons. He talks about corporate life, he talks about his personal life, he talks about his friends, then some experiments he ask his readers to perform. One feels comfortable while reading it and with the ease he explains is just enthralling. Some of my most loved quotes are:

‘When you were born, you cried while the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a way that when you die the world cries while you rejoice’

‘Kindness, Quite simply is the rent we must pay for space we occupy on this planet.’

Blurb- The book, “Retirement Planning- A Simple Guide For Individuals” is meant to enlighten readers especially the middle class on how to invest, instruments in which to invest, and where to get started.

This book enables you take meaningful decision for your future retirement, whether you are at thirty or fifty. Review- Honestly speaking, this book is a proper guideline for a layman who is doesn’t know where to invest and what to do after he gets retired. The author has highlighted all the points step by step. The way these forwards are written, it gives a picture of a better book. The author has laid down certain investment plans which are simple and easy to implement. The pros and cons of the plans have been beautifully explained by stating certain facts and figures.

This is not a novel but a self help or rather say a non fiction that is written in a factual way. It has no personal or impersonal descriptions. Certain examples are shown from real life only, hence it is not a fiction book.

Not only this, the main plus point of this book is, one can never get bored as the author involves the readers as if he is talking face to face to explain them the points. The cover of the book is not the main concern henceforth, it is kept white and simple. The title is perfect for its purpose.
