Book Review of With Me/Otherwise

With Me/ Otherwise by Sheetal S. is a poetry book that includes collection of 50 poems which are magificently delineated. Poems are difficult to comprehend as they showcase the thoughts of the poet. In poetry genre, a poet is free to write about anything, it is a free flow of emotions and Aristotle says, ” Poetry is an art of imitation.”

Blurb of the book :

i told him every time you kiss me leave a word in my mouth conundrum. elison. stay. foofaraw. shoal. freyja. With me/ Otherwise is all about the intricate design of human relationships. The poems hold a reticent astonishment at facts that occur around the world and transcribe them into emotional entropy. The romance of emotional weight and the linear projections of them make up for the major theme. Often swinging with images, questions and compulsions, the poems halt with sudden references to observations, surrealism, rituals and desire.

Thought Process:

The thought process of the poems are difficult to understand as the thoughts are hidden somewhere in variety of words used. The poems are about romance, emotional thoughts, desires, confused mind, observations, rituals, surrealism.

Sheetal reminds me of EE Cummings who never followed syntax in his poetry. Similarly, Sheetal’s poetical scribbles are devoid of punctuations and capital letters. Technically speaking, it isn’t correct but when we look at this poetry genre, in this everything becomes correct. It is poet’s imagination, their thoughts and the way they look at things, we can’t see that perspective.

The writing style of the poet is lucrative. The use of transfer epithets, metaphors, alliterations, rhyme patterns makes it poignant. Some of the headings of the poems are taken from different language. The poems don’t follow any particular pattern. Some of them are in verse form, while some are lyrical. They are mainly irregular in nature.

It seems that Thursdays are unlucky for the poet as two poems talk about the loss on the very day. Sheetal has beautifully talked about the lost umbrella and the melancholic thoughts.

The cover of the book is simple, elegant and graceful while the title of the book delves feelings of curiousity in us. The book consists of 50 poems and all these poems give us varied range of thoughts.

My favourite poems : THURSDAY; BAD HABITS; OUTSIDE OF EVERYTHING; NAILS AND LUNGS

Wow lines:

you said you are busy, so i ate all the moons.

i am gray, the absence of whatever you do.

i decorate my hair with your insecurities.

much wine and fatigue in my bones slow to respond so slow to respond.

Since I am a Bibliophile, I want a huge library at my house.. My room is an average room and its my heartiest desire to have a magnificent library somewhere.. At times I look at the pictures of the libraries..

I have a huge collection of books but the space is limited so they are either kept in cartons or in my suitcases.. It feels bad when you have to pack your books in your suitcases..
