The Suitable Inheritor by Pushpendra Mehta is an amazing book with traces of Spirituality, lament, romance, mystery in it. I got this book in return of an honest review so let us go through the book closely:
Cover- The colour scheme of the book is pleasing and theere is a man standing at the cliff who is alone and at the end we notice a key. This has some links which the cover doesn’t tell right away so lets turn the pages.
Title- The title is perfect and nothing could have been better than this. We realise about the title nearly at the end of the novel. The essence of the novel gets a clear picture at that part of reading.
Blurb-Michael Elliott is stirred from deep sleep by an early-morning dream-a beautiful woman leads him to the Pacific Ocean and whispers that the ocean will help him discover his true destiny. When Michael is then invited to Peru, he wonders if this is the path to that destiny.
The journey of a lifetime, the energy of the majestic Pacific Ocean, a meaningful legacy for success and happiness, the sacrifice of a soul mate from Chicago, and the support of a special mate from India combine to make Michael the preeminent relationship coach for young people. Once he reaches that pinnacle, he is confronted with the most difficult choice he has ever made: in the pursuit of excellence, does sacrifice matter more than support; or without support, does no sacrifice count?
Can Michael resolve this life-changing dilemma, discover his true destiny, and finally become The Suitable Inheritor?
Plot- Michael Elliot is stirred from deep sleep when he sees a beautiful woman taking him to the Pacific Ocean. This dream becomes his soul quest and the seriesof events takes place which helps him uncover this mystery. After uncouthing the mystery he realises that everything happens for a reason and somethings are detined to happen in our life. This mindblowing plot and crisp plot construction is the strength of the novel.
Themes- There is only one theme that is utmost important i.e. theme of love. The readers notice unfulfilled love of Dorothy and Andrew. This is told by narration only. The sacrifice of Dorothy is hughlighted beautifully. Further, there is a love scene of Dorothy and Mike. THey are to be in spiritual love and this love remains a mystery till the end Mike gets his answers. After that, Meher’s one sided love towards Mike is seen which soon undergoes a change with change in scenario and time. The time plays a vital role in these love sequences.
The other theme is of enlightenment and spirituality. It is hard to believe that someone’s love can change your life. Here, Dorothy’s selfless love changed Mike and made him the successful. He learned about the concept of spirituality from MEher and the anecdote of Meher’s grandfather was an icing on the cake.
The unconditional friendship of Andrew and Michael is the crux of the novel. The trip to his friend’s place changed Mike’s life completely. Though Andrew’s presence was shorter yet he is the loved character in the book. Andrew gave his legacy to his best friend and Mike truly fulfilled his dream.
Soul Topics- In this story, we come to know about disturbed relationships amongst young people. This is the soul topic and the way Mike solved Meher’s relationship issue was commendable.
The next thing I came across was the reincarnation. It is the procees of rebirth when a person dies and after sometimes he is born again for some reason. The anecdote of Meher’s grandfather throws light to this section.
Characterisation- I personally loved all the characters but my all time favourites are Michael Elliot and Meher. Michael Elliot is a relationship expert who gives advices related to relationships to young people. He is a sincere friend who visits his friend ANdrew and comes across interesting facts about him. He tried to help him and end up falling for Dorothy. The way things progress is mysterical. He fulfills Andrew and Dorothy’s dream. He dedicates the book to ANdrew. The way he treats MEher is impeccable. I could feel that this character is autobiographical and somewhere related to the author.
Meher is the most beautiful character I came across in this reading process. I felt she is the self composed character who is independent and is loyal towards her work. She is in love with Mike but she knows that he loves Dorothy so she accepts the fact. She gives her hard work, soul, spirit and body to him and his work. It is because of her efforts that Mike becomes famous.
Style- The author has used personal description along with first person narrative. The vocabulary used is rich and the fantastic catchy lines adds flavour to it. There were minor editing errors but they surpass the negatives over positives.
