Book Review of Jim Morgan and The Seven Sins

Jim Morgan and The Seven Sins by Bharat Madan talks about a different style of writing which is totally unique in this type of Literature. We can call it a sheer work of fiction blended with spiritualism, suspense, mystery, time travel.

The cover and the title are fantastic. Jim Morgan stands for the author in the book while the seven sins reminds us of those seven deadly sins taht we read in Dr. Faustus by Christopher Marlowe.

This book is a page turner and from the start it keeps you hooked till the end. I read this book as fast as I could and finished it in one and half hour. The way the author takes us back to the time or say the time travel concept makes it intriguing. Further, the blurb where Jim Morgan is told about the seven deadly sins he had comitted and the clues are hidden in his previous novels, makes this book great strength. I believe if the blurb is crisp, the story turns out to be outstanding.

The story is fast paced which sometimes turns out to be a haush paush. The plot structure is great. The author doesn’t give us much time to imagine as everything goes so fast. The concept and the characters turns out to be a hit whereas the writing style is simple and also requires improvement. If you are looking for unique plotlines and loads of suspense and drama, then surely grab this book.

A Heartwarming Session with Sameer Kumar

Hello lovelies,

It is been a while since I updated any interview. So, here it is.. Today I am interviewing Sameer Kumar, the author of The Origin of Martin Krooger. Lets get connected :

When did writing entered your life?

It entered in class 5 when I wrote a small story and showed it to a friend. She said its very bad.That increased my determination to write something worthwhile.

What all struggles you faced while writing The Origin of Martin Krooger?

I was poor at english so I never had faith on my work. Additionally ,  I have never read a novel so did not know what a novel demands. Study was the first priority at home so got very less time to write. People laughed that I thought of becoming an engineer but became a writer. Apparently , Job matters more than these in the social world.

From where you got the idea of Martin Krooger?

When I used to study in school ,  pogo channel aired children movies . Also cartoon network aired many movies. We as children were given to watch tv only while we ate. So after the food,  I was left to imagine the later phase of cartoon. Then I thought why not to write one and martin Krooger took birth.

It is not a cake walk to find a publisher? How you landed up with Half Baked Beans?

Honestly , I did not expect any publisher liking my work because of the genre. Its fantasy. There are very fewFantasy publishers in India. I sent my piece to all publishers but with failure. Then through Facebook, I came across Their Ad and the rest is history.

How was your experience with Half Baked Beans? What have you learnt from them?

The world is cruel for first time authors. Hbb made my first step very smooth and gave me chance to learn all that was Needed to get into the market.

Is there any genre which you haven’t tried, but want to? Why you want to try that genre?

This novel is a culmination of romance , thrill,  SciFi and fantasy. I would love to write a detective piece because I feel deeply involved in a good detective story.

How did your audience took your book?

So far I am honoured with the response. I still remember my first reviewer was Sarath Babu. I was so scared that day because it was the first time someone was critically examining my piece. When he gave me a 5 star I was like , did he give a 5 star to me. Literally, I celebrated that day with chicken dun biryani and a coke.

Where do you see yourself in next 5 years?

I won’t lie but surely a bench mark maker. I have tried a western fantasy in india. I know it will rock. If 5 years given to me well I will have a name which debutant authors will look up to.

How far you agree to this that role models are important in life? Do you have any role model?

I agree and disagree.  I have no role model in writing. I have never read any piece. Most of my works are like movies because I have watched many . My role models are my life,  my father,  mother, my love, and M. S. DHONI.

Any special message for the readers?

My message is simple and clear. 90%of people will laugh at you. They have been sent on earth to laugh at others and they are doing their job with utmost respect. You have been sent o earth to live ur dreams. Are you following ur dream with Utmost respect ?

My name is Sameer Kumar. I am manager at Tata Steel from 8 am to 6 pm and then I am an author. I have done Mechanical engineering from Bit Sindri. I did my schooling at The Pentecostal Assembly School. My hobbies are to watch movies,  eat and make new friends. My favorite films are The wolf of wall street and YES man. These movies Have really shaped my life. I love to appreciate live. Its just one but we don’t understand it.My aim to be famous so that when I walk on street people ask me for selfies. Book Review of Soulless

Soulless by MV Kasi is a stream of consciousness novel. The book deals with serious issues like child abuse, drugs, alcohol and depression. Since its a serious issue type book but the author has balanced the seriousness with wit and humour.

The cover of the book is dark. The chess game gives us a glimpse that it has mystery and suspense in it. At times, it seems unmatchable with the title and the theme of the book.

The title is Soulless which stands for a person who doesn’t care about anyone and their emotions. The title is apt as the protagonist has heartless traits. Still, there are many reasons behind this title which are uncovered as the reading proceeds further.

The format of the book is an ebook. I wish the author could have converted into a paperback, it would have a different essence.

This novel can be categorised in many ways. It is a social novel as the social issues like child abuse, drug addiction, sex addiction, alcohol addiction are concerned. Further, we can call it a psychological novel as it is difficult to deal with Sia’s psychology who seems addicted to many things and the way she behaves. We need to know psychology a bit if we are analysing her character. This can come under young adult or dark romance category as we say many intense love making scenes. Not only this, it can be further categorised a stream if consciousness novel as we come to know about the thought process of various characters.

They say when you take revenge you lose a part of your soul.

But Sia hadn’t felt her soul in a very long time. She only knew the soul-crushing fear and helplessness. Especially during the nights, when she fought an invisible enemy that terrorized her during the nightmares.
Her days weren’t any better either. She spent most of them trying to desperately gain control of her life while battling her various fears and addictions.
She was only twenty three, but she had resigned herself to live the rest of her life that way. Fearing the unknown.

Until it all changed one day…

Now she knew. She knew that the monster from her nightmares was real. And also that her soul had been ripped apart from her.
The memories had brought in fear, rage and pain, along with a strong craving for a swift payback.
But revenge was a dish best served cold. And it required a complete absence of emotion.
So now?
Now she plotted. And she schemed. She prepared herself in every possible way to hunt and destroy her enemy.
But every mission, however well planned can go awry. Sometimes it’s because even though one can be soulless, there is always the heart. A very weak and desperate heart that was being stolen by a man.
A man who was like a bright spark of vivid colors in her otherwise dark and dreary life.
A man…who was only supposed to be collateral damage.

The plot is neatly woven and is really crisp. The story revolves around Sia, who is a mysterious girl with so many secrets in her bag. She has a big motive of revenge which we come to know at the end of the book. The story is written in her voice and at times we hate her and at times we feel sympathetic towards her.

The characters are beautifully delineated. Sia’s character seeks a lot of attention as she is mysterious, bit cranky, rude and soft at the same time. She wants to avenge someone, for which she plans and plots. During this course she comes across a man who changes her life. She is a tormented soul and when things began to heal slowly, her past knocks at the door. The story ends in such a way that it makes a way for the next part. I feel Sia’s portrayal have been the toughest task for the author as she had to create a heartless character who was soft at some point.

The style of writing is simple, lucid and creative. The thirs person narrative along with vivid descriptions makes it poignant. The way the point of views is used, its mind blowing. The author surely confuse our minds at various points. It further has an episolar as well stream of consciousness technique in it. This book can be converted into a movie and I am sure, it will be a hit. There were minor errors in the editing as I could find some missing words, yet the subject matter cannot be ignored. The author has done a tremendous job in highlighting the serious issues which are often ignored.

The Alphabet Killer by Prachi Sharma is a psychological crime thriller. This book can be classified under some more genres like feminist piece of writing, social novel, crime thriller, detective novel.The book is a page turner and it binds you till the end. One can fall in the love with the way the author has played with the minds of the readers.

The cover is simple and I feel the author focussed more in telling the story but the people who judge the cover might not love it. Still, I wanted to read the book and I didn’t judge the cover at all.

The Alphabet Killer is the title which surely grabs our attention. A feeling of curiosity arises in our minds as we  want to know whether its some serial killer series or something else.

The city of Mumbai goes past, cold, impersonal, self-absorbed. A killer waits in the shadows, anticipating his prey. Mia Santos is a successful author, feminist and Chief Editor of the Mumbai chapter an international feminist magazine. Someone is raping and killing the women she works with, one by one, and carving out the initials A.B onto their foreheads. The media gives him the moniker ‘The Alphabet Killer’ Mia’s getting taunted and tormented by someone who claims to be the killer. She’s the only one who knows what the initials mean, and the killer’s end game. The same is suspected by CID Inspector Damien De Silva, who’s investigating the killings. Even as he tries to work with Mia, he starts getting attached to her. What is that horrible past which Mia’s worked so hard to bury? Why is the killer so adamant to unravel this past? Will Mia reciprocate Damien’s feelings? Will they be able to work together and find the killer before he executes his horrifying climax?

The plot construction is the strongest section I came across and it kept me glued till the end. The author has concocted her story around Mia Santos, who happens to be a renowned author, feminist and Chief Editor of an International Feminist Magazine. Life takes a turn when her collegues are murdered. There comes CID Inspector Damien De Silva who investigates the case. This is a story of past which was buried but came into being through mysterious murders. Along with this we get to see a love hate relationship between Mia and Damien De Silva.

The characters are simply amazing. Mia and Damien are my all time favourites. Mia is beautiful and a hard core feminist who knows how to handle the things even in worst scenarios. She doesn’t lose her patience easily and is a stable person. But the situations that happen infront of her can make anyone unstable and heart broken.

Damien De Silva is a true officer who could go to any extend to solve the case. He is handsome, intelligent, witty and smart at the same time. He feels attracted towards Mia and tries hard to control his attraction towards her but fails to do so.

The writing style is the second best element in the book. The author uses present as well as flashbacks in the end book. The book is written from Mia and Damien’s point of view. The narrative style is exceptional while the descriptions and criminological terms used adds flavour to it. We also come across philosophical elements and stream of consciousness techniques. One can instantly fall in the love with story. So, I would suggest the thriller lovers to grab this book if you want more of drama, suspense and mystery.

Birds of Prey by Archana Sarat is a psychological crime thriller. This book is a page turner and has surprises in store for you almost at every page. The way the author has highlighted the serious issues and certain taboos just hover over your minds for a few days.

This book is a crime thriller but has some of the social issues it highlights. The child abuse is one such topic which people don’t dare to take up. This happens everywhere but nobody talks about it and the victims are so much tormatised that they don’t utter single and if by mistake they do, they are beaten up brutally. This book shows us a society where there are monsters who are ready to pounce at you and silently kill you either physically or mentally.

Whenever I read crime thrillers, I think of one question only. Why someone became a criminal? The reason is their surroundings and maybe they are more exposed this leacherous and betraying world. The minds of the people are corrupt and all these factors and injustice gives birth to a criminal who commits a crime. Basically, he takes up the law in his hands as the law abiding people also betray him. These situations makes him heartleas and merciless. This story has a valid reason like why the murders happen. The psychology plays a vital role as the authorplays withthe minds of not only her characters but also the readers. We all are astonished to read such a story.

The characters are well developed and with which the author delineates it makes it more reasonable. The way with which an ex police officer works for his department is appreciable. We kind of feel like saluting him.

The style of writing is simple, lucid and clear. The story runs in flashbacks as well as in point of views. The descriptions are attractive and one can surely visualise the incidents that happen in the story. The author has carefully chosen the events and used them at a correct place. The editing part seemed ditched the flow of the story and could have been better. Further, the lack of proper crime related language makes it look bit fake. Otherwise, the gripping plot keeps us hooked till the end. I shed numerous tears while reading and finished it in just one hour. Kuddos to the author for bringing up such critical issues and giving us the reality check.

The Doppleganger by Prateek Yadav is a psychological thriller. This book is a page turner and the way the author plays with the minds of the readers is just perfect. This book can either make you love the author or you can end up getting totally confused.

The cover is tricky and it looks like a psychological trap for the reader and it reminds us of those ways to hypnotize a person. The title is just perfectly suitable.

The plot is layered and can surely make you predict the culprit wrong. This is the strongest point of the author where he proves his readers wrong and by this way the readers don’t mind also.

The author engrosses the reader with the journey of Sameer who seems to be struggling with memories with strangers and many more. The mystery deepens when Gupta, a retired police officer who is now a disillusioned guard enters the story. He provides the vital link to the story of Sameer and then emerge Prakash & Palash – the twins, Dr. Robert, Amit and Rai. Who is the evil guy or are all of the thugs out to get each other? The story becomes quite murky while we try to unravel the clues.

The author has created suspense from the very first page and this is a perfect instance of a psychological thriller. The drama, action and the way with which the scenes have been delineated are impeccable. This story surely puts you in a tabula rasa state where you are unable to guess the culprit. Gupta’s side story adds spice to it.

The style of writing is poignant. The shift in point of views makes it intriguing. The editing is good whereas the descriptions are perfect. The use of flashbacks added flavor to it.

Agniputr: When Agni First Spoke by Vadhan is a Perfect Suspense Novel. The genre of the novel is surely a complete surprise for the readers. The author has made this book look like a roller coaster ride.

The cover of the book is exceptional and the innovation of the designer and the hidden thoughts of the author can be seen. The author wants us to keep guessing the situations and surprise us with some different version of the thoughts.

The title gives us an idea that it is a mythological novel but it comes out to be misleading as we start reading the book. The book has some other thoughts while the cover and the title talk something else.

The author seems to be playing with the minds of the readers. The genre is difficult to guess. The readers judge it as a mythology but the facts of quantum physics and other paranormal activities us a new picture. This is totally new to the word of Indian authors and creates a lot of hype in the writing industry.

The characters play a tricky role in the book. Some look flat but are complex while some are just so to the point. The author has played with the minds of the characters as well. The last part has a crisp character named Agniputr and the whole story revolves around him.

The style of writing is lucid, pithy and condensed. The use of different point of views is impeccable. The way the author has talked about science, the readers seem to fall in love with it. The suspense, mystery are totally perfect. There are tinge elements of humor in it which makes the mood light.

An Eye for An Eye My Love by Vibhor Tikiya is a heart shaking novel that can leave you with thousands of questions with no answers to be heard around. The author has talked about the combination of a carefree life with a worst life. This book surely makes you laugh and cry at the same time.

The cover of the book is breathtaking as it has a couple who are lost in each other. This surely gives us a glimpse that it is a love story. The colour scheme is beautiful.

The title is different and highlights a serious issue which we comes to know about once we start reading the chapters. The story is linked to the title somewhere and makes sense.

Dhruv is a vagabond who lives life king size, without having to work for a living. He wanders around the world without a purpose. Life, however, takes a turn when he meets Aisha in Paris and falls heads over heels in love with her. An escapist, he is unable to express his love while his lady love moves back home to India. Dhruv decides to go after her to the country that wasn’t very kind to his late mother. To add to his misery, he loses Aisha in a violent incident. Transformed into the reluctant fundamentalist, Dhruv seeks punishment for the culprit through law. It’s when the loopholes in the system seem to be favouring the wrong side thathe seeks vigilante justice. Aided by two men with their own agendas, he fights to achieve justice and balance. “I want to live” – the last words of a woman who changed India forever – inspire this tale of love, justice and revenge.

This book talks about the serious issue called rape. We are well acquainted with the fact that on December 16, 2012 the whole country was blown by a loud cry. The last words of the victim in the Nirbhya sexual assault case were, “I WANT TO LIVE”. This incident became the inspiration for the author so he came up with this piece. I must say it is really difficult to comprehend such a situation.

The characterisation is marvelleous. It is difficult to delineate entirely different characters with entirely different idealogies. Dhruv is a vagabond whereas Aisha has a father and job to look after. Life takes a turn when they both are in love but a tragedy takes away all the happiness of their lives. This story is serious but the first half can surely make you laugh and smile.

The style of writing is simple, lucid and clear. The way the author has used witty and condensed language is impeccable. The use of quotes is main highlight. The editing seems to be apt. The beginning of chapter has some deep conversation with the mom which makes it stand out and unique.The feelings depicted by adding emotions, pain, drama, suspense and mystery is just perfect. If you want all the flavours of a novel then this book is the best choice.

Book Review of Finding the Angel

Finding the Angel by Rubina Ramesh is a masterpiece indeed. This book is a package of emotions, love, drama, humour, tragic element and wit. The way the author plays with the minds of the characters is just fabulous. Nobody could have done this. This is one of the quickest read of 2016 as it took me only 1n half hour to complete this. Moreover, just because of this book, I have fallen in love with Ebooks, which is completely against my rules. Kuddos to Rubina whose story made me break this rule the second time and first time being her first book Knitted Tales, that is a collection of short stories.

The cover of the book is mind blowing. It just gives us royal touch. It takes us to those Raja Maharaja tales which we have read in our childhood but this book is surely different from those.

The title is perfect as the story revolves around this. Finding the Angel is a beautiful saga filled with loads of drama and emotions.

The plot is neatly woven. There are no sub plots as the main plot is just so gripping. The saga revolves around Shefali Verma and Aryan who are opposites but are attracted. When the rare Fabrege, the Angel with Egg in chariot is stolen, all this attraction turns out to be a revenge. Shefali wants to find the Angel to prove her innocence while Aryan wants it for his mother. The story looks like a Tom and Jerry chase between Shefali and Aryan where Aryan is unknown of the true intentions of the people around him.

Rubina seems to have excelled the art of characterisation. My most favourite actors are Shefali and Aryan. Both have a lot of similarities. They are complex characters and it is difficult to know their mind set unless until one comes and reveal about themselves. The way the situations are delineated and the way these two act is exceptional. Both are deeply in love with each other but their behaviours seem to oppose their thoughts. They make a perfect couple and the chemistry is fantabulous.

The style of writing is simple and eloquent. The use of witty language and the typical regional words like ‘Khamaghani’ and ‘Ghanighama’ makes it look royal like. The descriptions are artistic and beyond perfection especially the palace description takes away the hearts of the readers. The small side stories makes it look like an allegory but it is not. The intense scenes have beeen described with decence which makes them more beautiful. The third person narrative is impactful. The editing is simply awesome. It is a must read as you will surely get lured by the suspense, mystery, love and action. I can bet that this book has the power of turning into a movie. Currently, this book is in an ebook format but soon the author is releasing its paperback version on 9 January, 2017.
