What your banker won’t tell you by Vaibhav Anand

Hello Fellas,

How is your book reading going on? I have been away from reviewing these days but that doesn’t mean I am not reading anything. Nobody can take away the reader in me. Today, I will be sharing my review for a non- fiction book What Your Banker Don’t Tell You by Vaibhav Anand.

vaibhav anand

Cover: The cover of the book is amazing as the cover doesn’t give you an idea that it is a non-fiction book. The cover looks like a mirage. It shows a girl, geeky beautiful who seems to be excited while writing something.

Title: The title of the book is intriguing and it just grabs the attention of the reader.

About the Book: Making money is hard, they will tell you. Or that you need to buy X insurance or Y mutual funds or a 3BHK in Z place. Your banker, your money manager, even the avuncular neighbor who sells you LIC policies, will seem incredibly earnest as they give you what is actually self-serving money advice.

Coming from someone who’s spent years in banking, ‘What your banker won’t tell you’ is a simple do-it-yourself guide for investing in India. Spanning investment instruments across real estate, mutual funds, equity investing, debt, gold, Vaibhav takes you through fundamental tenets and easy to follow steps to grow your money and keep your banker from taking some or almost all of it.

Review: Although I am picky with non- fiction, I liked this self-help book. The way the author has used examples to explain the points about “mutual funds” is great and I didn’t get bored while reading it. The language was simple and understandable. It was a quick and easy read with lots of suggestions to be implemented. People who are unsure about their financial management then this book is your Bible and everybody should read it as it has life-saving advice given by our one and only Vaibhav Anand.

Book Review of The Sinners by Sourabh Mukherjee

The Sinners by Sourabh Mukherjee is a mind-boggling suspense thriller. This book has touched every aspect of writing style. Let me walk you through the critical analysis of this book.

Cover: The cover of the book is the most attractive factor. It grabs attention of the reader to pick a book and read it. Honestly speaking, I wanted to read this book, the moment I saw the cover. The lady in red makes with a wine glass is the icing on the cake. This cover can clearly become a cover for a big motion picture.

sinners

Title: The title “The Sinners” is perfect as every character in this book is a sinner in their own way with mysterious auras of their own. This is an apt title for the book.

Blurb: Vikram Oberoi is found dead in his penthouse. A few hours ago, his involvement in a sex scandal in NexGen Technologies made headlines across the world. Who is behind the sinister conspiracy that destroyed Vikram Oberoi, the philandering India Head of NexGen? Rivals within and outside the firm? One of his many jilted lovers or the miffed wife? A mysterious conspirator laying out honey traps to sabotage his plans? Or, is it the ghost of a sinful past that continues to haunt the Oberois? The Sinners is a fast-paced thriller with a shocking twist that unravels against the backdrop of corporate warfare, illicit relationships, and ruthless seduction games.

Plot: Ofcourse, Sourabh has written a gripping plot which is connecting to minute details of elements like seven sins, thriller, purgery, seduction but somewhere the end was predictable. In spite of being lots of twists and turns, I could guess the end and moreover, I was looking more to it. I feel this plot could have been better and this plot can be used for a motion picture that can highlight the darkness behind the corporate sector.

Characterization: Honestly speaking, Vikram Oberoi is one of my favorite characters. The author decided to come up with a complex character who has so many multiple faces. He is a businessman who is serious about his work, then he is a casanova and popular amongst so many women. He also has a family with whom he doesn’t do justice. Even with so many flaws, his life and his deeds are delineated beautifully. The author has made us hate him, see his sins. His character surely adds meaning to the sinners as he is the biggest sinner in this book and he gets his punishment. Other characters have played their parts well.

Style: Sourabh follows the third-person point of view in his writing. He has used short to complex sentences. He has used a very simple sentence form. He could have done better like playing with words.

Although The Sinners is a gripping tale and one can finish it in one go. I completed this book in two hours. You can grab your copy from Amazon.in and Flipkart.

Walking on the Path of Indie Publishing by Rubina Ramesh

rubina vol 2

Walking on the Path of Indie Publishing by Rubina Ramesh is the second book in the series of The Writer’s Toolkit. The cover is simple as it is just a manual for publishing a book. The author has sectioned this book which explains the basic steps of publishing.

Besides writing a book there are many more steps which an author has to go through. This has been delineated by Rubina wonderfully. I especially loved the way the author has sited examples from her books and others.

Besides being a great writer, Rubina is a multi-talented person who is a pro at editing, beta reading, marketing and now kindle publishing.

Through her book, Rubina has given wings to the other authors who are struggling to find the right set of people for their book.

I am in awe with the Toolkit series. It is a must buy book and you can finish it in minutes. The contents of this book are more for implementing.

You can contact the author at : [email protected] to grab your copy.

Writer’s Toolkit- The Secret of Ghostwriting by D.R. Downer

Writer’s Tool Kit, The Secrets of Ghostwriting by D.R. Downer, is a part of TBC Series which is available on Amazon. Starting from the cover of the book, it is way too simple and really tight. The cover has been a name and not designed to catch anyone’s attention. The main focus is on the topic of ghostwriting which the author has explained in a detailed manner by iterating examples. The author has used simple, lucid and precise language to tell the readers about his thought process.

Further, he has given us definitions, what, why and when of ghostwriting. He has taught us about something which we just knew vaguely. I could imagine him explaining me through the presentation.

It is a non- fiction piece which is straight to the point, crisp and reaches the audience without any hassles. It is a 20-page easy read and can be downloaded on your Kindle device at a reasonable price. I would strongly recommend buying this book.

P.S. Also go through the Spotlight of this book.

Book Review of Generously Yours by Inderpreet Uppal

Hello Readers,

I know its been ages since I have updated any book reviews. I am sorry for being an ignorant towards this. Now I am back with an amazing book review of Generously Yours by Inderpreet Uppal.

38319920

Cover: The cover is colourful, fascinating and has stunning colour scheme.

Title/ Sub-Title : The title seems intriguing and unique. This title gave birth to the curiousity to read the book and I am surprised at my speed. Even after months I could finish this book in 15 minutes. The sub title has a deeper meaning attached to it.

Blurb: ‘Love is forever’ or so thought Diya.
Shy, bookish and loving, Diya never thought she would ever need to be anything else. Her charmed life slips away from her in ways, she never imagined.
Will Viren be able to sort the jumble of their lives or is it already too late?
A bittersweet story of life, longing, and lasting love.

Theme: The theme could be related as it reminded me of someone with the same issue. I wont reveal what that is about. For that you need to read the book. Love was one such theme that touched the heart.

Plot: The plot did not have much of twist and turns. It was simple and straightforward.

Characterisation: She has beautifully painted her characters. I am already getting attached to Divya and Viren.

Style: Since Inderpreet is an editor henceforth, I can understand her style of writing. She has a unique style of writing which will make you fall in love with the way she play with words. She has used third person narrative, fantabulous descriptions. She has made a simple story lively.

Ending: I felt the ending was different, maybe not the way we readers wanted it to be. Ofcourse, it doesnt have any death scene, thankfully. But she could have done in some other way.

Favourite lines:

She was a shy, homebody, bookworm, and he a flamboyant, traveler and a nomad.

The early morning strolls and breakfasts in the garden, the meals on the beach.

“At the height of their love affair, they had bought this house, a quaint little home with a patch of a garden, the gnarled bougainvillea tree blooming furiously, the only adornment there and the dual parking. “

Book Review of The Untold Story by Ridhi Drolia

The Untold Story by Ridhi Drolia is a sweet romantic fiction which is beautifully narrated using third person narrative. The book allures the readers with its amazing descriptions and the flow.

Ridhi Drolia

Cover: The cover of the book is appealing and the way with which the color scheme is used makes it great. The couple seems so much in love and the blush of the guy shows their bond.

Title: The title ‘The Untold Story’ is the main highlight of the book. The whole book revolves around it and the author has beautifully maintained this intact. Plus, the sub title, ‘ A tale of True Love and Beyond’ gives us a hint about the main theme but never explains clearly.

BlurbLove comes in different forms. But in all its forms, it comes with various challenges. Only those who can combat those challenges are true lovers.

The Untold Story is the tale of Vihaan and Riaa. Vihaan falls for Riaa’s charms at first sight and brings to her life crazy adventures and madness. They soon emerge as two hearts with one soul and their intimate fantasies begin to unravel in exotic places.

Their bond experience more downs than ups. These unexpected twists and turns bring Vihaan and Riaa closer and their romantic tale turn into one of lifetime bonding.

The story takes a drastic turn after the lovely couple is blessed with a baby boy. It should be a joyous moment, but instead, haunting memories of Vihaan’s own childhood break out as a fresh wound in his mind.

Read the novel to know what could make a father unhappy in the happiest moment of his life and how he combats his fear.

Theme: The story rotates around three themes. One theme is love which we notice between Ria and Vihaan. The way they handle their stuations is mind blowing. Even a real life should take some notes from this fictional couple. The other theme is never ending friendship between Tanya and Vihaan. Tanya is the narrator of the story and she cannot hear bad about her friend so she starts telling about him. The third theme is of a social issue for which you need to read the book.

Style: Ridhi follows really simple and clear style of writing where she has expressed her thoughts without using any fancy words. This shows that she doesn’t want to complicate her thoughts or glitter them behind fancy words. She has used third person narrative style and further a story within a story technique. The descriptions are eye catching and keeps us hooked till the end.

Although we have so many good things about this book but still I feel the story could have been better. The plotline was not that strong. The characters of Ria and Tanya were not fully developed. I felt the ending could have been different. It didn’t make much sense to me. The grammatical errors could have been rectified with another round of editing. Overall, it was one time read.

Book review of Fierce Kingdom by Gin Philips

First of all, I would like to thank Penguin Random House Canada for sending me this beautiful book Fierce Kingdom by Gin Philips along with a surprise gift for the review. When I got this book, I was stuck with my final exams but now I am can’t wait to write about it. I finished this book in two days and it was a great experience reading this book.

9780735224278_custom-f9a94f2d9d180ec6c8bd5c96254c6acf2ce1e1ae-s400-c85

The cover of the book is fantastic and the horses in the picture have unique significance but it reminds us of a circus scenario or some show. The color scheme is black and red which is appreciable.

The title Fierce Kingdom is an appropriate title as it matches the internal theme.

An electrifying novel about the primal and unyielding bond between a mother and her son, and the lengths she’ll go to protect him.

The zoo is nearly empty as Joan and her four-year-old son soak up the last few moments of playtime. They are happy, and the day has been close to perfect. But what Joan sees as she hustles her son toward the exit gate minutes before closing time sends her sprinting back into the zoo, her child in her arms. And for the next three hours—the entire scope of the novel—she keeps on running.

Joan’s intimate knowledge of her son and of the zoo itself—the hidden pathways and under-renovation exhibits, the best spots on the carousel and overstocked snack machines—is all that keeps them a step ahead of danger

The story revolves around the mother who tries her best to protect her son. A beautiful bond between son and the mother. It reminds us of Oedipus Complex where sons are attracted towards their mothers.

The crisp writing style of the author makes the book worth readeable. The third person narrative and descriptive writing makes it poignant. I really loved the way the author has portrayed the emotions of mother and the son. This book is a must read.

Book Review of The Fragrance of Rose

The Fragrance of Rose by Chirajit Paul is a romantic thriller that takes you to a roller coaster ride of events, situations that affects the life of Rinita Bose. It can also be called as an inspirational journey as the protagonist never lose hope. She keeps on moving with new hopes.

41wR6t8ASkL       51eHZSnwrmL

Cover: The front cover is mind blowing and makes you fall in love instantly. The colour scheme is vibrant and those who judge the book by its cover, this book is the perfect choice. The Rose in the cover is a symbolic figure as it signifies fragrance, love but also reminds us of the thorns it has which signifies betrayal, pain, suffering. The back cover has a blurb and author’s bio in it which seems just apt.

Title: The title is mind blowing. The Fragrance of Rose signifies all the good happenings. Whereas the subtitle Beauty. Diginity.Ambition talks about the desires, self respect and the beauty of the protagonist which are beautifully structured in the novel. Hence, the title and the subtitle gives us a lot of information in key words.

Blurb: Rinita Bose is an ordinary middle class girl with extraordinary beauty and unmatched aspirations. While chasing her dreams, she comes face to face with harsh realities. That’s how she learns the valuable lesson – what most men really want. In a twist of fate, she picks up enmity with a powerful man and flees the city. She switches careers and hides her identity behind the garb of Rose to make a place in Bollywood. She earns money, fame, adulation and success. But love eludes her. She witnesses the darkness of life in a drunkard father, a lecherous boss, a scheming producer and a friend who wants to take advantage. But then there are those that she can rely on in the worst of situations, her friends from childhood who stand by her through thick and thin. Those who don’t judge her; just love her unconditionally. Will Rinita be able to find the love she craves for? Or will she be mercilessly crushed for The Fragrance of Rose.

I picked up this book because of the cover and the blurb. The blurb is so powerful that it has sudden pull that makes you want to read the story. A book is incomplete without a strong blurb that gives us an insight of the plot sequence and I am glad to say that the author has done a fantastic job in it.

Plot Structure : The book is divided into three parts where the author has artistically delineated the life story of Rinita Bose, the protagonist, who has beauty with brains. This book talks about her life struggle with different men where some were leacherous, schemy, worst to her while there also lies her friends who are always there with her in her thick n thin. Life seems like a cakewalk infront of her in the start but when she refuses to fulfil the leacherous needs, she has to pay a heavy price. The plot is strong and surely a movie material. If it gets converted into movie, the audience will love it.

Characterisation: The author seems to have mastered the skills of characterisation. Rinita’s character is simple as well as complex. It is hard to understand her dreams, desires and her actions. Sometimes she sounds so bold while at other times she sounds the weakest. In all this while she has two friends who never leave her sight. Everytime she falls, she comes up with a bangon. There are so many variations in her character.

STyle: The language conveyed in this book is lucid and condensed. The way the author has expressed his thoughts using flashback team of narration. There is not one narrator but many. We come to know in the end at the hospital scene when notice everyone narrating their side stories in form of letters. The use of epistolar style of writing along with different perspectives gives us flavours. This book is a must read and I am sure you will want to see this book turned into a high voltage drama thriller.

Book Review of Super Couples

Super Couples by Prachi Garg is a non fiction book that talks about the stories of entrepreneurs who are couples.

51CrjsJoeZL

Cover and Title: I really loved the simple and elegant cover that serves the purpose of the book. Further, the way the author has chosen the title, it makes it meaningful. For me both are perfect.

Sneak Peak:In an era booming with the ‘Start-up’ trend and loving this new attitude of breaking boundaries and conventions of a career, one also faces the challenge of being able to partner up with the right people. In lieu of reliable and trustworthy partners, real life couples in relationships have started exploring the idea of partnering up in business too!
Speaking to various couple-preneurs, one realizes that the myth about mixing work and home is just as misty as the one about needing a stable and conventional job for an ambitious career. These dynamic start-ups break stereotypes and cover a varied range of services: ecommerce, innovative gifts, eco-friendly products, health care solutions, social responsibility ventures, event management, digital
solutions and many others.
SuperCouples brings out such lovely stories of enterprising couples. After all, when great minds come together to produce something built on conjoined dreams, the result is eminently successful.

About The Book

This book has some success stories of people from various fields who have shared their live’s struggles. Some of them talked about their love for art, food, technology and many other fields. This book is inspirational and it gives us courage to start something with our loved ones or partners. Life becomes easy when your life partner is your business partner as well. The author has done a lot of reasearch work and the couples are form various departments, fields, backgrounds.

The book is written in a simple yet powerful way.The way the author has engaged us till the end is mind blowing. I would say, instead of author, the stories of couples kept us hooked. This book is nowhere related to fiction and it involves common people who created their name in a unique way. This collection surely makes us love the stories as well as the author.

Book Review of Key To My Soul

Key To My Soul is a heart touching novel by Probal Mazumdar. This book talks about love, betrayal, social issues and even it has glimpse of flashback technique blended with epistolary style of writing.

81iU6lUyUSL

Cover and Title: The cover is simple yet elegant and it symbolises the thoughts of sepration and reunion. Further, Key To My Soul is again symbolic title as the literal meaning is something else. It is not exactly about a key but indirectly about a key of love.

Blurb: “When Siddharth, a lonely young man with a failed marriage gets a sudden phone-call from a mysterious person about his lost childhood lover, Hazel and learns that she is battling for life, he is shaken to the core. He also learns that she had left certain letters for him fifteen years back that never reached him. It disturbs him so much that he rushes to the hospital in his old hometown. There he discovers an eclipsed past buried in time that is riddled with dangerous surprises, trauma, twists of fate, sacrifices that exemplify true love and the real reasons for the tragic end of their childhood love story. But will Hazel ever open her eyes to see him..

Plot: The plot is intriguing and it grabs the attention of the readers. The story is about Hazel and Siddharth who beautifully carry the story forward. This is their story but fate has some other plans for them. They are meant for each other but gets separated by destiny and even by people. The best part is, it is not like those teen love fictions. The emotions are so strong that it binds your soul till the end.

Characterisation: The author seems to have mastered the skill of constructing complicated characters. I feel every character I came across had their own story, struggles and battles to handle. Hazel and Siddarth are the protagonists. With passage of time or say with every new page, I could find new colours in their characters. Their strong love is challenged and the way after so many struggles they handle their life.

Style: The style of writing is simple and the language is easy to comprehend. The flashbacks and epistolar styles add flavours to the book. The beautiful poem in the end makes your cry for these lovers. At times, we are in thoughts likewhat if she had reacted this way or what if they had told about it? So many questions hover over my mind. But I really loved this book. This book is a must read.
