Khwaishein: Kuch Puri to Kuch Adhuri Si by Pulkit Gupta is a Hindi Translation. The book has strong emotions that keep you hooked till the end and its my first Hindi novel and I don’t regret reading it.
Cover- The cover has amazing colour scheme where we notice a guy standing alone. This gives us a glimpse of solitude being the segment in the book. The colours tells us about the ups and towns that we are about to read. The ambience is ethereal and one feels mesmerised by it.
Title- THe book has a title as well as a sub title. Khwaishein means desires of a person whereas the sub title Kuch Puri to Kuch Adhuri Si denotes that the desires are just desires, out which some are fulfilled while some are not. The sub title has a deeper meaning which we get to know only after reading this book.
Plot- The plot is beautifully woven and revolves around the life of Rachit who happens to be in Engineering College but ends up becoming CA due his health issues and circumstances. The story has a flashback of Rachit’s past life which he narrates to Khushi.
Characterisation- The author has a strong hold on his characters and at times it looks as if Rachit is his mouthpiece. He is a confident carefree guy whose life turns upside after he comes to know about his illness.
Radhika is a flat character and the way she loves Rachit inspite of all the bad behaviour from his end, is breathtaking. She is a true soulmate who understands him so well and the way she gives him a new meaning to live is appreciable.
Style- The author has a simple style of writing. He doesn’t use fancy words but a simple language to convey his thoughts which touch the hearts of the readers. The use of stream of consciousness technique and monologues is the icing on the cake. The use of epistolary technique along with metaphorical representation makes the book impressive. I thoroughly enjoyed my first Hindi novel and planning to read more such.
