Book Review of Glitter and Gloss

Glitter and Gloss by Vibha Batra is a light hearted romance novel blended with humour. The novel is well known for its witty dialogues and the way it involves Bollywood instances is impeccable.

Cover and Title- The cover is classy and the image perfectly suits it. This throws light on the glamourous world somewhere or the other. The title suggests that the story is about cosmetics , beauty salons and probably its sponsored by M.A.C as there is clear cut mention of this brand.

Plot- The plot is predictive still it binds the readers till the end. The story revolves around Misha is a makeup artist at M.A.C and bumps into Akshay one day. They fell for each other but as they say every story has a villain and his didi is one such person who wants a typical bahu for her brother. Will Misha be able to convince Didi? Does her love has enough power to hold back Akshay?

Characterisation- The author has beautifully portrayed her characters and my personal favourite is Misha who is a power house of energy. She never fails to make others feel awkward and her blabbermouth throws her in an awkward sitaution always. She is a makeup artist at M.A.C. She is hilarious and witty. The way she handles the things from her professional to love life is enthralling.

Akshay is the heir of Agarwal Jewellers who is tall, lean and a successful businessman. He falls for Misha but he loves his Didi so much. It is difficult for him to choose between his Didi and his love.

Style- If you are a grammar Nazi then surely, you will not love this piece but if you are reading like a layman and enjoying the witty, hunourous dialogues then surely, it is a treat to read Vibha’s writing. The Bollywood dialogues keeps you hooked till the end but at times those Hindi phrases are a turn off. Overall, its an interesting read and can be converted into a comedy film.
